Benefits of Cinnamon oil

When I think of cinnamon, it reminds me of walking in the mall and around one specific corner you just know the Cinnabon smell is going to hit you in the face and you will have to muster all the energy you have in you not to submit and buy a big fat pecan nut roll...


Today I have a bottle of cinnamon spice in my kitchen that is filled way to the top and I always spill some when I open it. But besides baking with it, did you know cinnamon essential oil has some amazing benefits ?


  • It can be used as a mouthwash - You can add 1 drop to a glass of water and gargle the mixture in your mouth for a few minutes. Cinnamon oil has great antibacterial properties and will help keep your teeth clean as well as give you fresh smelling breath.

  • Can ease the appearance of imperfections on your skin - When applying any essential oil to your skin always try to dilute with a carrier oil because they are extremely concentrated. Mix 1 drop with a tablespoon coconut oil and apply it to the affected spots on your face.

  • Can aid in weight-loss - The oil can't actually help you lose weight but it possesses properties that can help manage your hunger. You can add 2 drops to a glass of water and drink before a meal. You will feel fuller for longer. (Always make sure you buy the best quality essential oil if you plan on ingesting it.)

  • Respiratory support - You can mix about 2 drops with a carrier oil and apply to the chest as you would like vaporub, it will open up your chest for clear breathing.



If you did not know carrier oils can be one of the following:

  • Coconut oil

  • Fractionated coconut oil

  • Palm oil

  • Jojoba oil

  • Avocado oil

  • Argan oil

  • Moringa oil

  • Grape-seed oil

Although cinnamon oil has some outstanding benefits, you should be mindful not to use too much. It can have some negative effects on your live if you use it in high dosages.


The best way to use any essential oil is by diffusing it, the tiny air molecules will be taken in through your breath and it can boost your mood, brain and immune system. As I have mentioned before I use the "poor mans diffuser" by simply smelling it out of the bottle.
